Too Many Thoughts

July 14, 2013

Good Morning DearHearts,

Perhaps you too have had this experience. You are standing in one room of your home, you remember something you need to purchase the next time you go to the grocery store. The grocery list is in the kitchen, but by the time you get to the kitchen, find the pen and the list….you can not remember the item you wanted to add to the list.

There are many explanations for this situation that range from needing doctor intervention to jokes. Many attribute these memory lapses to the advancement of age, however, I have a different theory. Adults just have too many thoughts.

We know we have too much brain wave activity when we try to meditate. Quiet mind we think, then we think of something else. Back to quiet mind. Back to something else.

Children rarely experience this condition because they do not bother their minds with multiple thoughts at once. They stay in one brain space at a time. Another way to phrase this is “the now”.

Adults have an issue with now because there is so much past and future roaming around inside of their brain-spaces. There is so much to distract and deny the brilliance of just one thought or moment – or so we believe.

The magnificence of one single thought within our mind is not only brilliant; it is healing.

Try it.

Right now (the only now there is) breathe in and as you release that breath release all thoughts you may be having about anything or anyone. Stare at this page without actually seeing it and just breathe in and out. Each time you find a thought, let it go. When you have spent a few moments in this quiet bliss, add one thought word to your clean mind and that is PEACE.

Now breathe in the word PEACE and exhale with the word NOW.
Repeat, repeat, repeat.

The power of our thoughts is emphasized in spiritual teachings. We have all experienced the ability of bringing forth an experience out of a thought. So perhaps if we are more selective about which thoughts we allow into our mind we just may have less difficulty in remembering.

Anyway, it’s just a thought.

Yes, I can relate to how easy it is to have thought to get something and going into the room and it flies right out of brain. The brain retraces back and remembers the item you went into get..Thankfully that seems to be happening less and less as I simplify my thoughts..

“The magnificence of one single thought within our mind is not only brilliant; it is healing.” And with this one single thought you have explained to western minds the power of a mantra that many people believe is an esoteric, voodoo-like, mysterious way of the inscrutable East.
