It’s How You Use It
Good Morning DearHearts,
“It’s not what you do, it’s the way that you use it” is a lyric in an Eric Clapton song. This lyric reminds me of one of my favorite current commercial campaigns on television. The genius of the ads lies in the fact that the exact same script is used in two totally opposite scenarios.
Many years ago when I was a theatre student in college, we would play a game based on that idea at the lunch table. Someone would say a phrase and then everyone at the table would have to give that phrase a different spin simply by the way it was said. This was one of my earliest realizations of both the power and limitations of spoken language.
I realize that I have written about this topic before, but the importance of our words cannot be too often mentioned. The spoken word is still the major means of communication and miscommunication in this world. I believe we can all agree the energy behind the massive onslaught of speeches and rallies recently has been far more destructive than the actual words used. Of course some words are incendiary whether they are whispered or shouted.
Certain words are historical. The use of these words is linked to past painful memories and the very utterance of them brings the past into the present moment and inflicts ancient wounds in a modern moment. Neither “side” wins with the reopening of a barely healed gouge of the human spirit. Verbal “slings and arrows” are an assault on the Truth. Unfortunately, it is a Truth that has more deniers than supporters. However, the Truth does not change by the mere fact that many choose to refute it.
In Truth- we are all of one Mind and Source.
The commonality of the two-leggeds of this world is supported by the science of DNA. It has been proven that humans, at the core of their being, are far more alike than different.
The perception is that we are different, but at the center of each and everyone are the same desires. Everyone wants Happiness, Joy, Feeling Safe, PEACE.
If for one universal moment we could all embrace the Truth that we all have exactly the same goal for life, a profound shift would be experienced. It appears we are speaking differently but in fact we have the same dialogue but speak it with different emotion.
There are only two emotions in this world, love and fear. These two emotions are the cause of all perception and interpretation of everything that seems to be happening. This brings me back to the commercial with the SAME dialogue, but the way it is perceived is completely different. In one scene a woman is showing off her new sofa and says “I saw it and just had to have it.” In the other half of the commercial a burglar has broken into the house and is looking at the sofa and says “I saw it and just had to have it.”
The audience will either align with the joy of purchasing new furniture or cringe at the fear thought of being robbed. The response to the ad is totally dependent on the perception of the viewer. I find it brilliant because it totally exposes the fact that nothing but perception determines outcome.
As I am finishing this missive Hurricane Irma is travelling through the Atlantic Ocean and seems to have Florida as a destination. For the past several days the energy around town has been heavy with fear. The general media has been fueling the fear with reports of possible shortages and long lines in gas stations and food stores.
I grew up in South Florida and have gone through many storms. Perhaps because I have had this experience multiple times I find myself in a rather neutral thought space. Of course I am doing the typical preparations, because it is the practical thing to do. But I am also meditating and sending love to Irma. My perception of the storm is; it is formed from the thought of being separate from creation. This storm is an effect from our ONE PROBLEM cause. We do not believe we are One with Source and each other and this extends out to our environment.
I have a confession; I was trying to decide if I would write these last few paragraphs about Irma. Then I turned on the Marianne Williamson weekly lecture, she included this idea in her talk. Yes, we are ALL of one mind.
Please join me in sending Love to Irma and our environment.
“Earth can reflect Heaven or hell; God or the ego.”
May we all shift our thoughts into Unconditional Love towards Everyone and Everything. Because :
THERE IS UNLIMITED LOVE HERE.
In Love, Light and Peace,
Janet Weissman
