Out With the Old
Good Morning Dearhearts,
While doing the laundry this week I had the realization that some of my favorite pieces of clothing that would never be subjected to the inside of the dryer were now being tossed in with my jeans.
I still wear them but their “specialness” has subsided. If you have read my blog before you may know that I see everything as a metaphor to spirituality. This awareness is no exception.
Ideas from the past can be held onto and treated with great care. We can be unwilling to see these ideas may be fraying or losing their color and attraction. Yet, we will hold on – at least a little while longer.
I can see a reflection of this thought in my closet. The closet appears to be quite full and when I am looking for a particular piece of clothing it may take some extra time to locate it because there are so many other things still in the closet that are NEVER WORN. I might need to examine the reason for holding on to what I have obviously decided I no longer require.
What is the motivation for refusing to let go?
Well the ego voice will caution me, just as I take something out of the closet, “what if you need it next week”? Of course many weeks, months or even years (yes years) have passed without the occasion to wear that outfit. But when I hear the “what if” I obey as though a decree has been issued by a high court. Hold ON.
The ego voice can have a similar impact on my ideas and thoughts. The awareness of old habits and routines that are not serving my desired outcome to a situation does not mean those customs are easily discarded. The same voice that told me “what if you need that shirt next week” is the same voice instructing me , “let’s try it this way, just one more time.”
Change of any kind can be challenging for many of us. Changing the way we think is probably the most difficult of all adjustments. Yet the greatest reward will come from the hardest modification of our thoughts. Until we actually experience the lightness of being from the reversal of the thought process, it is only a vague concept without any personal validity.
Remember that closet full of unused items? Start there. Commit to removing one or two items. Decide to donate these to one of the multiple collection agencies that service the part of the Sonship in need of what you have to offer. Take a breath. That actually felt good. Release is cleansing.
The small release of unwanted items from your closet will be magnified a thousand fold with the release of an old thought pattern. The liberation of the old provides a space for a new, healthier viewpoint to emerge. Take a breath. Feel the lightness of change.
“Change is always fearful to the separated, because they cannot conceive of it as a move towards healing the separation.” Text. Chapter 4.
There’s another change I want to share. Due to the possibility of a tropical storm in South Florida last weekend, the date for the next workshop on Relationships was changed to September 17th. If you are on my email list I will be sending out more information. Please contact me if you want to reserve your spot.
