Good Morning DearHearts,
Some may have noticed the subtitle for this blog, which is “how to see everyday events in a spiritual light”. For me, this is the real practice that is offered each and every day.
I recently wrote about spiritual practices and how varied they can be. But all have one thing in common; they must be used to be effective. So while reading the daily lesson in A Course in Miracles is important and going to study groups are wonderful, going to Wal-Mart might be an equally effective way to practice your path.
I have heard many say they will not venture into a store where they may encounter shoppers who are less like them. Hmmmm, let’s think about this.
Right now there is much conversation and debate over beings who appear “less like”. Each individual must decide how to approach this very obvious ploy of the ego to instill fear and promote separation. So maybe a friendly visit to Wal-Mart can help with the decision.
Each weekend I go to Wal-Mart specifically to purchase cat food because I have discovered the pricing is better than other stores. And yes it is true that sometimes the other shoppers in the store seem to be unlike those one may encounter in Publix. From a perception point of view (and it is always perception) some of the families seem to have more struggle in life. But if someone has more to cope with each day does that mean they are less?
The most prevalent truth in spiritual teachings is the oneness of everything and everyone. As if spiritual teaching was not enough, now science has joined the party and also can give evidence of the oneness in the universe. This is a fact.
Back to Wal-Mart.
As I was saying, I venture to the above named store with a goal in mind of scoring the most cat food for the best price. However, I have also scored some terrific conversations in the pet food isle. The unconditional love of pets is a key to opening hearts. Conversations with strangers can unfold from one of two perspectives, either from finding a common annoyance or from a common preference.
We humans like to justify our opinions. So when we are displeased about something; we tend to want to find others who will agree with our displeasure. The lines are too long, not enough cashiers, everything costs too much are just some of the thoughts that we project out, to hopefully find a match.
In a world of duality there is also the possibility of extending loving thoughts and finding a comparable one where you are. As always, we have choice.
