On Any Given Friday
Good Morning DearHearts,
Every Monday my coworkers ask, “What did you do Friday night?”
The answer has been the same for 17 years. Every Friday evening I have the distinct privilege of being in Boca Raton and leading A Course in Miracles group. After this many years I guess you could say I am committed to the practice. But the wonderful thing about this commitment, it’s so easy.
To be completely honest and open, there were times during the first year or two when I wondered why I had volunteered to facilitate the group. I would angst during the day about what I would say, who would attend and if I was spiritual enough to be leading the group in the first place. I would find myself at Publix getting snacks for the group and being totally annoyed about how slow the checkout line was moving. On more than one occasion I heard a voice in my head say “why is this taking so long? Don’t they know I have to be spiritual in an hour?” Somehow, it always worked out. People would attend and even followed the group as it moved multiple times during the first few years.
During this passage of years, the group has become a spiritual family. As in all families there have been joys and sorrows. There has been a wedding between two of the attendees. There has been illness and there has been at least one attendee who left his body. One of the striking things about that “leaving” was how that gentle man had changed during his tenure at the group. He came into our midst feeling lonely and afraid. Shortly before his departure, he had a party to celebrate his new life and happiness.
Now I cannot imagine a Friday, rain or shine, that does not include travelling to Boca to greet those who choose to spend a couple of hours in communion with Source.
It is very true that if we want to learn anything, the best way is to teach it to others. The act of explaining a concept, whether it is a spiritual one or a method of rolling out pie crust, confirms the knowledge within the mind of the teacher as he/she explains it. This is only one of the reasons why ACIM acknowledges everyone as both Teacher and Student.
Each being that shows up on Friday (and now Tuesday in Wilton Manors), brings a “story” that either needs to be shared to heal or an example of how healing occurred in their life. Healing is a process that we gladly accept as a small part of The Sonship and the only way to truly heal is bring someone else along.
“Brother, we heal together as we live together and love together.”

I live in Ontario, Canada. If ACIM was actually “A Course In Money” it might be known, here. I often have the thought of starting/finding such a group. I’m in my 30s so maybe it will happen one day. Part of trying to explain the text to others is first getting past the bit about murdering them. The ego and God are as mutually exclusive as are hell and Heaven (and people who hate push God away). Trying to exorcise ego from people seems often to provoke a kind of hatred from them that I do not wish to witness in people because the fear in them feels ancient. Additionally, Time does not move; or at least I do not notice anything ever changing, anywhere. It does in people’s perception but obviously the only thing meant to change is the mind of those who make the one, single mistake (wanting and needing separation to be real). Only one mistake was ever made and simple forgiveness is the correction. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be in a room that has sane people in it. I’m very happy for you and what you have done/created. That’s a real accomplishment. Seems miraculous. Honestly, I couldn’t believe such a thing could happen anywhere in Ontario. The insanity feels absolute.
Good Evening,
Thank you for your comment about my most recent blog post. Check out Miracle Distribution Center to see if there is any study group anywhere in your vicinity. And if you are ever visiting South Florida- visit one of my groups. Would love to meet you.
🙂 I took your advice. But groups near by seem to be small businesses that focus on business and money. I can’t wrap my head around how that stuff can even apply at all to ACIM. There are no groups within an hour’s drive of me… but I would want to attend a group, be part of one for some time, before I ever try to create my own. It’s just not in my nature to do the sort of thing that say, Kenneth Wapnick did, because my mind is not at that level of freedom as of yet (but real freedom is in the experience of sharing it with others, I know). But thank you for the suggestion. I will try again with that, at some point.
